Hypertension is the silent killer of mankind

Malignant Hypertension is associated with complications like pappilloedema, retinal exudates, hemorrhage. These patients usually have BP around 200/140.

 

Causes of Hypertension

Essential Hypertension

Renal causes- Acute nephritis, Interstitial nephritis and pyelonephritis, polycystic

                       Kidneys, Renal artery stenosis.

Vascular - Arteriosclerosis, coarctation of aorta

Endocrine-Cushing s syndrome, thyrotoxicosis, myxedema.

 Neurological- Raised intracranial tension, lead encephalopathy.

Others – aortic incompetence, toxemia of pregnancy, gout.
